Grocon’s Parklands Project hosts Construction Skill’s Queensland Try’a Tradie

Aspiring young tradies will gain hands on experience at a Try’a Trade at Grocon’s Parklands Project this Wednesday. The event is jointly hosted by Grocon, Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ), World Skills and TAFE Queensland SkillsTech.

Try’a Tradie aims to help attract enthusiastic young people to the construction industry by motivating participants through skills development workshops.

Aimed at year 10 students from two local high schools, Assisi Catholic College and Merrimac State High School, considering construction as an elective subject in years 11 and 12 the event gives participants the opportunity to try out trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, horticulture and landscaping.

The students will also have the opportunity to tour the Parklands Project to observe some of these trades in practice.

During the workshop, participants will have an introduction to the Parklands Project by Grocon’s Project General Manager, Steven Grimes and the students will also hear from successful apprentices currently working on the Parklands Project.
